The Mother, Maiden and Crone illustrate the three stages of life, represented beautifully in this backflow incense burner designed by Nemesis Now.
A young maiden, a pregnant woman and elderly lady stand in a circle, each with their right hand holding up a large chalice which holds the incense cone.They stand on a base of gnarled tree roots, their hooded robes are decorated similarly with intricate designs depicting their corresponding seasons. The young maiden's cloak features sapling trees with bright green new leaves, the mother's is in full bloom adorned with colourful flowers, the crone's features bare tree branches with an image of a waning moon above.
Each woman's moon phase is also below her on the base of the burner.
When a backflow cone is lit, the smoke flows from the bottom of the chalice and swirls magically around the three mystical ladies, creating a beautifully eerie effect.
